Bengals Drop Two in Reno

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team lost two close games in the opening day of the Nevada Blue Gray Classic, falling to Northern Illinois, 5-2 and Saint Mary's, 3-1.

Jessica Baca and Christina Rayner led ISU offensively, each coming up with two hits and a home run.

In the opening game against Northern Illinois, ISU fell behind 5-0 before Rayner knocked a two-out two-run home run over left field in the seventh inning.

In the second game, Idaho State led Saint Mary's 1-0 through six innings thanks to a home run by Baca in the second inning.

But the Gaels rallied in the bottom of the seventh to put two runners on base with one out and won the game on a three-run home run by Christine Torrise.

Kandis Clesson took the loss against Northern Illinois as she allowed six hits and struck out six while Amanda Fitzsimmons took the loss against Saint Mary's.

Idaho State combined for eight hits in the two games, three coming against NIU and five against Saint Mary's.

Idaho State returns to the field on Saturday for contests against Saint Mary's at 10:30 a.m. and Nevada at 5 p.m.
