POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team takes a break from PCSC play to compete at Utah State on Wednesday, April 13, at 3 p.m. Following Wednesday's game, the Bengals play their home opener on April 16-17 against PCSC foe Portland State. Both games are doubleheaders and begin at 12 p.m.
Due to rain and snowfall in the Pocatello area the Idaho State softball team has been forced to move its home games to Capell Park in Chubbuck. Going Northbound, the park is located by taking a right on the street just past Chubbuck City Hall.
This is the second meeting of the season between the two schools. On March 5, in Tucson, ISU beat the Aggies, 10-2 in five innings. It was the first win over Utah State since the program was brought back in 2007. Prior to March, the last time ISU beat Utah State was a 1-0 win in Logan on May 3, 1983.
Utah State is 7-33 and 2-7 in WAC play. This is only the fourth home game for the Aggies this year. Kassandra Uchida is the top offensive player as she is hitting .333 while Mandy Harmon has pitched 122.2 innings and posts a 5.71 ERA.
Bengals Among Conference Statistical Leaders
Christina Rayner is sixth overall in the PCSC in RBIs with 19.
Amanda Fitzsimmons is third in doubles with eight,
Brittany Olsin is fourth in triples with two while
Kandis Clesson is fourth in innings pitched (105), fourth in strikeouts (67), third in appearances (24) and first in games started (20).
Bengals Go Long
The ISU softball team has hit 17 homeruns this year, more than the 13 hit for the 2008 season and two away from tying the mark of 19 hit in 2010. The 2009 team hit 24 homeruns while the 2007 team hit 30.
