Box Score

CHUBBUCK, Idaho- Amanda Fitzsimmons struck out a season-high 10 batters but the Idaho State softball dropped a 3-0 decision to Utah State on Wednesday afternoon at Capell Park. On an afternoon where the rain gradually picked up throughout the seven-inning game, the Idaho State softball team fell to 7-28 and Utah State improved to 10-35.

Fitzsimmons did take the loss as she scattered seven hits in 6.1 innings while allowing the three runs on the 10 strikeouts. The 10 strikeouts was not only a season-high for Fitzsimmons but it was also the most by any Bengal pitcher this season.

The Idaho State offense managed only two hits, from Terah Blackwell and Fitzsimmons on the afternoon.

"Their pitching staff handled our hitters very well," Idaho State coach Julie Wright said. "We didn't make the adjustments on the outside part of the plate. I was pleased with Amanda's performance in the circle but at this level when you miss with even one pitch, it gets hit hard. Our energy was great from the first pitch to the last and that is important for us to play well.

The game was scoreless through five innings before the Aggies scored one run in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Idaho State returns to conference play on Friday and Saturday for a four-game series against Weber State at Capell Park. Friday's doubleheader starts at 2 p.m. while Saturday's twin bill begins at 12 p.m.
