POCATELLO, Idaho-
The Idaho State softball team battled Mountain West Conference leader BYU, who was a 2010 Super Regional Team toe-to-toe, on Tuesday evening at Gail Miller Park before losing 2-0.

BYU scored a run in the first inning and the sixth inning and scored their two runs on seven hits and committed two errors while ISU had three hits and committed one error. Kandis Clesson went the distance, pitching six innings, scattering seven hits while striking out three and walking five. Of the two runs she gave up only was earned.

Terah Blackwell, Amanda Fitzsimmons and Courtney Dial all had the hits for the Bengals. Dial had a double to set ISU up for its best scoring chance in the fifth inning when she advanced to third on a passed ball with one out. But BYU pitcher Paige Affleck struck out the next two batters to end the inning.

“Kandis threw great today,” Idaho State coach Julie Wright said. “She kept us in the ball game and gave us an opportunity to win. They had a talented pitcher on the mound and we didn't always stick to our offensive game plan. We must show better discipline this weekend.”

The Bengals return to the field this Saturday and Sunday for the final home games of the season against Seattle. Saturday's doubleheader starts at 12 p.m. and Sunday's twin bill begins at 11 a.m. Prior to the start of Sunday's game the five Bengal seniors, Brittany Olsin, Jessica Baca, Erin Olander, Haylee Thompson-Brock and Kandis Clesson will be honored.
