POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State plays its final nonconference game of the 2011 season with a single game at BYU beginning at 6 p.m. Idaho State then returns to conference play with its final home series on Saturday April 30 and Sunday May 1 against Seattle. First pitch on Saturday is at 12 p.m. while Sunday's doubleheader starts at 11 a.m.
BYU leads the overall series 9-2. ISU's two wins came in 1983. In 2010, the Bengals lost 10-6, 6-2 and 11-5.
BYU is 28-15 and 5-1 in Mountain West Conference play. The Cougars are hitting .300 as a team with Jessica Fitu and JC Clayton each hitting .383. The pitching staff boasts an era of 2.43.
Despite the 3-0 loss to Utah State on April 20,
Amanda Fitzsimmons set the single-game Idaho State school record for strikeouts in a game with 10. In the the last four years several Bengal pitchers have recorded nine strikeouts, most recently Nora Maschue with nine in 2010.
The ISU softball team has hit 22 homeruns this year, more than the 13 hit for the 2008 season and 19 hit in 2010. The 2009 team hit 24 homeruns while the 2007 team hit 30.
Brittany Olsin's five homeruns this year is the more than any Bengal hit for the 2010 season.
Kandis Clesson became the ISU all-time win leader on Friday, Apr. 22 with the 11-2 win over Weber State. She earned three wins on the weekend and boasts 39 for her career, passing Tammy Sorenson's 36 she earned from 1979-92.
