POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team opened Pacific Coast Softball Conference play on Saturday at Northern Colorado, losing a doubleheader 5-3 and 10-0. The Bengals pounded out seven hits in the 5-3 loss but was held to three in the 10-0 five inning defeat.
“That was an unfortunate way to begin conference play,” Idaho State coach
Julie Wright said. “Our pitchers let themselves be dominated by their hitters. We must come out tomorrow and hit our spots.”
Brittany Olsin was 2-for-3 while
Erin Olander was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and one homerun and
Christina Rayner was 1-for-2 with one RBI in the first game.
Kandis Clesson suffered the loss in the circle.
In the first game, ISU fell behind 3-0 after the first inning. Olander then smacked her two-out homerun to bring ISU within a run in the top of the second inning. Northern Colorado added two runs in the fifth and ISU scored a run in the sixth when Rayner platted
Jessica Baca, who started the inning with a leadoff single.
In the second game, Northern Colorado scored four runs in the first inning and two in the second, third and fourth innings to score its 10 runs on eight hits. Rayner was charged with the loss in the second game.
The four-game series concludes on Sunday with another doubleheader at 12 p.m.
