POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State football team held its first fall scrimmage on Friday afternoon and the 40 plus play event was a time for the Bengal coaches to allow freshman
Josh Cutler and
Jim Bagley a chance get key repetitions on the offensive line.
With the loss of
Brad Shedd for the season due to a knee injury and
Erik Jacobson (knee) out for two-three weeks, the Pocatello and Meridian High School standouts are getting their opportunity to shine.
“I am very happy,” Idaho State coach
Mike Kramer said. “This is our 11th practice and we had tremendous energy on both sides. We are battling a tremendous loss with
Brad Shedd going down along with (Erik) Jacobson. We are playing two true freshmen, trying to get those guys up to speed. They are playing all the time. It is just a matter of time for those guys to get used to it. We want to use every rep to make the
Josh Cutler and
Jim Bagley feel like they have been with us a long time.”
Kramer added that Cutler and Bagley will be superstars and their time might now to shine.
Highlights from the scrimmage included a fumble recovery and interception by linebacker
Jake Pele and several pass deflections by the Bengal defense.
Offensively,
Kevin Yost,
Justin Arias and
Brad Kragthorpe both saw time and completed passes. Yost completed eight passes with a long of 16 yards to
Anthony Boyles while Arias completed four passes with a long of 16-yards to freshman
Duke Bukoski. Kragthorpe's longest completion was a 15-yard pass to
Kelvin Krosch.
The Bengals return to the practice field Saturday for two practices.
“We have to come back tomorrow and have two good practices,” Kramer said. “We can't drag tomorrow.”
