SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -
Freshman midfielder Madeline Gochnour scored her first career goal in Idaho State's 3-1 loss to Utah on Sunday at Ute Field.  The Bengals out-shot Utah 14-to-13 for the match and unleased five corner kicks to Utah's two.

"The team played great soccer.  We out-shot and out-played them for large portions of the game," said Head Coach Allison Gibson.  "We just need to focus more on the final product of scoring the goals."

Utah got on the board first scoring off a set piece 18:42 into the game.  Harley Spier scored her first goal off a header from a corner kick served up by McKel Wall who was credited with the assist.

The Bengals responded just 1:49 seconds later when Gochnour unleashed a 22 yard rocket to the back of the net.  Her first career goal was unassisted.

Utah went into the break ahead 2-1 when Leslie Muirhead scored six yards out off a rebound from an ISU player at the 35:53 mark.

Utah outshot the Bengals by one, 8-to-7 but the Utes were deadly accurate with seven of their eight first period shots on goal.  ISU had just two shots on goal.

The Bengals mounted a second half effort against Utah out-shooting the Utes 7-to-5 with the Bengals posting three on goal shots to Utah's one; Erin Dalley's second goal of the season at the 53:01 mark.

Dalley finally found the back of the net after a game-high five shots and a game-high four on goal when she put away a left-footed 14 yard shot.  Jill Robison and Ashton Hall were credited with the assist.

Sophomore Kiley Godfrey led the Bengals with four shots.  Carly Hutchings-Maloney, a sophomore keeper, had five saves all in the first period.

Utah improved to 4-4-1 while Idaho State fell to 3-5-1 for the season.

Idaho State plays its final non-conference game of the season when the Bengals host Utah Valley on Thursday, Sept. 22 on Davis Field at 4 p.m.
