Bengals Travel to Sacramento State and Portland State

POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State returns to the road for two conference games at Sacramento State on Saturday, January 14 at 8 p.m. and Monday January 16, at Portland State at 8 p.m.  Both games can be heard live on 930 AM with Jerry Miller calling the action. 

Idaho State leads the overall series 24-13 with the two teams splitting the season series last year. The Bengals won 68-63 in overtime in Pocatello and lost 74-63 in Sacramento last year. ISU's last win in Sacramento was a 52-51 victory on Feb. 28, 2008.

Sacramento State is 5-9 and 0-3 in Big Sky play. The Hornets are led in scoring by John Dickson's 14 points a game. Joe Eberhard is scoring 11.1 points and averaging 6.3 rebounds. Sac State is scoring 64.7 points a game and shooting 44.9 percent from the field.

Idaho State stepped out of conference for a game at Wyoming on Monday and lost 73-49. Dejan Kostur led the Bengals with 11 points in 31 minutes of play. With Monday being the fourth game in eight days for ISU, all 11 Bengal players that traveled got into the game and scored.

The Do It All Player
Chase Grabau has been a leader for the Bengals on and off the court this year. He is currently averaging 11.6 points and 4.8 rebounds. He is shooting 52.3 percent from the floor and has 58 assists to only 26 turnovers to go along with a team-best 29 steals. He had a career-high 31 points at Weber State on Dec. 29.

Conference Play Means Improved Play
Since the start of Big Sky Conference play Melvin Morgan and Chase Grabau have improved their scoring and shooting percentage. Morgan has increased his average from 11.8 to 12.8 points a game in conference. He is also shooting .458 percent in Big Sky play. Grabau has increased his average to 17.8 points a game in league while shooting .636 percent from the field and .533 percent from the 3-point line.

Weber Sate Has Top RPI in Big Sky Conference
Weber State boasts the best RPI in the Big Sky Conference at 88. Eastern Washington is second at 144 while Montana is third at 147. Northern Colorado has an RPI of 200, Portland State 233, Montana State 293, Idaho State 298, Northern Arizona 310 and Sacramento State 337.

Freshman Walks On To Floor
Freshman walkon Garrett Swanson continues to earn more and more playing time. After playing only three minutes in the first five games (which all three minutes came against Colorado Christian), the Bengal wingman has averaged 18.2 minutes a game, 5.5 points and 2.6 rebounds in the last  11 games for the Bengals.  He played a career-high 25 minutes at New Mexico and then came back and scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 24 minutes of play at home against North Dakota.
