Bengal Rally Stuns Sacramento State

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team rallied from 22 points down in the second half to beat Sacramento State 68-67 at the Hornets Nets in Sacramento, Calif. Idaho State trailed 67-64 with 12 seconds remaining when Kenny McGowen hit a 3-pointer and was fouled with eight seconds left.  McGowen connected on the free throw and the Hornets last second 3-pointer was blocked by Sherrod Baldwin to give the Bengals the victory.

Idaho State is now 4-13 and 2-3 while Sacramento State is 5-11 and 0-5 in conference play.

Chase Grabau led the Bengals with 20 points and five rebounds on seven of 15 shooting from the field. K McGowen had 19 points and five assists in 36 minutes of play. Andre Hatchett had 10 points and five rebounds in 20 minutes of play. Abner Moreira led ISU in rebounding with 10.

The Bengals shot 35.9 percent from the field while Sac State shot 50 percent.  Idaho State had a season-low six turnovers while the Hornets were forced into 21 turnovers.

With 11:21 left in the game Idaho State trailed 54-32. Sacramento State was then held scoreless for the next six minutes as the Bengals got within nine points at 54-45 with 6:35 after a jumper by Baldwin.

Idaho State later trailed 64-54 with 1:58 remaining when it made its final run to steal the game from Sacramento State. McGowen started the run with a 3-pointer, Hatchett hit a free and Grabau scored on a layup to bring ISU within four points at 64-60 with 59 seconds left in the contest.

Sacramento State went back up by four at 66-62 with 30 seconds left when Moreira had a tip in five seconds later to cut the deficit to 66-64. Sac State hit one of two free throws with 12 seconds left to set up the winning 3-pointer by McGowen.

Idaho State returns to the court on Monday at 8 p.m. (MST)  for a contest at Portland State. The game can be heard live on 930 AM KSEI with Jerry Miller calling the action.
