POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State opens the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Utah State in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. The game can be heard live on 930 KSEI while the football game, which starts at the same time will be broadcasted on 102.5 KMGI.
Utah State leads the overall series 37-15. The Aggies have won the last 13 meetings with the last win for ISU being a 74-70 victory in the 1981-82 season. Last year ISU lost to USU 75-62 in Pocatello and on Dec. 21, 2010 Utah State beat Idaho State 71-48 in Logan.
Utah State beat Grand Canyon 76-44 and Simon Fraser 92-56 in its two exhibition games. Utah State is one of five teams in the nation to win at least 21 games in each of the last 15 seasons.
Recapping the Exhibition Wins
Idaho State beat Montana Tech 71-41 and Whitworth 68-65 in two exhibition games.
Chris Hansen and
Melvin Morgan led the Bengals offensively as both averaged 20 points a game. ISU shot 44.7 percent from the field and 46.8 percent from the 3-point line while scoring 69.5 points in the two games.
Idaho State in Home and Season Openers
This is only the second time in the last nine seasons that Idaho State has not opened the season against a team from a BCS conference. Since the 2004-05 season, the only other time ISU has not played a BCS conference team in the season opener was in the 2008-09 season when they beat Eastern Oregon, 75-70 at home. Since the 1994-95 season Idaho State has won only four season openers with all four wins coming against non Division I teams. Last year the Bengals lost at Oklahoma, 78-74. ISU has won its last eight home openers.
Evans Named Head Coach
Bill Evans was named head coach of the Idaho State men's basketball program in March of 2012. Evans spent the last four years at Montana and prior to Montana he was the head coach at SUU where he went 209-223 in 15 seasons.
SUU Coaching Connection
After being named head coach, Evans hired three guys who played for him at SUU. Joining the Bengal coaching staff is
Andy Ward, who played at SUU from 92-94 and
Jay Collins. Collins played for coach Evans from 2001-03. Graduate Assistant David Marek played for Evans from 2005-07.
Returning Bengals
This year the Bengals return six players off last year's team that advanced to the 2012 Big Sky Tournament for the first time in two seasons. Returning for ISU is
