POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team lost 74-39 to Washington State of the Pac 12 Conference on Saturday afternoon in Kennewick, Wash.
Chris Hansen led the Bengals 12 points, all coming from the 3-point line while
Andre Hatchett had nine points.
Tomas Sanchez had six assists and only two turnovers.
Idaho State shot 37 percent from the field while Washington State shot 49 percent. ISU was 6-for-16 from the 3-point line and the Cougars were 7-for-16 from the 3-point line. ISU was out rebounded 43-16.
“We had a hard time scoring the basketball again,” Idaho State coach
Bill Evans said. “I don't know what else to say. We are just struggling offensively and we will keep working.”
The Bengals were in the game early as they jumped out to a 5-2 lead two minutes into the game. ISU's last lead was 8-6 with 10:51 to play in the first half following a jumper by
Ayibakuro Preh. Washington State tied the game at eight with 10:34 to play in the half and WSU then closed out the first half on a 26-6 run to lead 34-14 at halftime.
“Washington State is good and well-coached,” Evans said. “They are big and strong inside and have overall good size as a team.”
ISU got no closer than 16 points the rest of the way.
Idaho State returns to Big Sky Conference play on Thursday Jan. 3 at Holt Arena vs. Northern Colorado at 7 p.m. in Holt Arena. ICCU is giving away free shirts to the first 1,500 fans at the game and fans can also purchase $5 tickets behind the basket.
