POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team picked up its first win of the season by beating Bradley 16-1 on Friday evening at Arizona State. The Bengals later lost to No. 21 Nebraska 12-4 in five innings.
Amanda Fitzsimmons led the Bengals in the two games as she was 7-for-9 with two home runs and seven RBIs in the two games. Fitzsimmons also pitched ISU to the win over Bradley in its first game of the day.
Courtney Hancock was 4-for-8 on the day with two runs and five RBIs while
Vicky Galasso was 4-for-7.

Fitzsimmons led the Bengals in the circle and at the plate in the win over Bradley as she earned her first win of her ISU career by pitching a complete game, allowing only four hits, one run while striking out eight. The 16 runs scored is the most by a Bengal softball team since the program was brought back in 2007.
Offensively she was 5-for-6 with five RBIs, three runs scored. Two of her five hits were homeruns. The five hits was also a new single-game school record.
Galasso was 4-for-5 with four RBIs with three runs while Becky Simonsen,
Gabby Lopez and Hancock were all 3-for-5. Hancock had a homerun and five RBIs while Shaundee Gareet was 2-for-4 at the plate.
Idaho State pounded out a single-game school record 23 hits. The Bengals led the entire game and scored first in the third with a three-run inning. After Bradley scored a run in the bottom half of the inning, ISU answered with a solo-homerun by
Ashley Moeller.
ISU extended its lead to 7-1 after six innings and then scored nine runs in the top of the seventh inning.
No. 21 Nebraska 12 Idaho State 4 (5)
Idaho State led 4-0 after three innings over the No. 21 ranked Huskers. The Bengals took a 2-0 lead in the second. Hancock led off with a single and then with two outs Garrett and Moeller walked, setting up Fitzsimmons two RBI single up the middle.
Hailey Breakwell led off the third with a single and Galasso walked to start the inning. Breakwell later scored on a wild pitch and Galasso scored on an RBI ground-out by
Courtney Dial to up the lead to 4-0.
In the top of the fourth Nebraska scored nine runs and added three in the fifth to seal the victory.
Kelsi Ott took the loss as she pitched 3.2 innings and allowed nine runs and 10 hits while striking out one.
The Bengals are in action Saturday morning against Washington (8:30 a.m.) and New Mexico (11:30 a.m.).
