POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team battled McNeese State but fell 4-2 on Sunday morning in the final day of the Kajikawa Classic at Arizona State.
The game was tied at two going into the seventh inning but the Cowgirls scored two runs in the top of the seventh and did not allow the Bengals to get on base in the bottom half of the inning to seal the win.
The Bengals scored their two runs on five hits while committing three errors in the field.
Vicky Galasso led the way offensively by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and scoring one run.
Idaho State took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when
Amanda Fitzsimmons led off the inning with a walk and then she later scored on an RBI single by Galasso. McNeese State took a 2-1 lead in the third and ISU came back to tie the game at two in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a solo homerun by Galasso.
But in the top of the seventh the Cowgirls scored their two runs to earn the win.
Kelsi Ott struck out a single-game school record 12 batters in 6.1 innings of work.
Idaho State is back in action Feb. 17-19 in a tournament at UNLV.
