POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team split the first day of the Louisville Slugger Classic at UNLV, beating Memphis, 12-4 and losing to UNLV 7-1. The Bengals are now 2-6 on the season. 
Amanda Fitzsimmons pitched eight innings in the two games and allowed only four hits, three walks and struck out eight. The Bengal junior earned her second win of the season against the Tigers.
The Bengals had 13 hits in the two games with Becky Simonsen, 
Hailey Breakwell and 
Gabby Lopez each coming up with two.
"I was proud of the team for their win against Memphis," Idaho State coach 
Julie Wright said. "They played hard and handled adversity. We weren't aggressive enough against UNLV and got behind batters. Our pitchers must work ahead of batters. We will be tested again tomorrow with two tough opponents in Texas Tech and Hawai'i. We must play hard every moment."

The Bengals took advantage of six errors and 10 walks by the Memphis pitchers to pick up their second win of the season. Seven different Bengals had hits led by Lopez's 2-for-4 afternoon with three RBIs and one run. 
Christina Rayner was 1-for-1 with two RBIs.
Amanda Fitzsimmons earned her second win of the season as she tossed the final 3.1 innings and struck out three and scattered three hits.
Memphis led 2-0 after two innings but ISU came back with two runs in the third to tie the game. Simonsen tripled in the inning and later scored on a one-out RBI single by 
Vicky Galasso. Then with two outs Lopez smack a two-out RBI double to right-center, scoring Galasso to tie the game.
Idaho State extended its lead to 9-1 to in the top of the third thanks to a seven-run inning. Memphis walked six Bengal batters in the inning and committed to two errors to spark the ISU offensive blast. Four of the first five Idaho State batters walked in the fourth inning to extend its lead to 4-1. Idaho State only had one-hit in the seven run inning.
The Tigers rallied with a three run inning in the bottom of the fourth but ISU sealed the game with three-runs in the top of the seventh to earn the victory.

UNLV scored all seven of its runs in the first two innings. Fitzsimmons came on in the third and pitched the final 4.2 innings and allowed only one hit and two walks while striking out five Rebel batters.
Idaho State scored its only run in the second inning thanks to a homerun by 
Courtney Dial. Fitzsimmons, Simonsen, Breakwell, Dial and 
Courtney Hancock all had hits for Idaho State. UNLV had eight hits in the game and 
Haley Douglas took the loss.
The Bengals return to the field on Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. contest against Texas Tech and a 6 p.m. game vs. Hawai'i.
