Bengal Rally Falls Short Against UCR

Courtney Dial hit a homerun in the top of the seventh inning.

POCATELLO, Idaho- A late rally by the Idaho State softball team fell short on Saturday afternoon as UC Riverside scored one run in the bottom of the seventh to beat the Bengals 3-2 in the second day of the aTen Construction tournament at UC Riverside. The Bengals dropped to 3-12 while UC Riverside improved to 3-9.

UC Riverside scored its two runs in the third inning and ISU came back and scored two runs in top of the seventh thanks to a two-run homerun with two outs by Courtney Dial. Dial scored Gabby Lopez, who reached base on a two-out double to center field.

The lead didn't last long as UCR's Kaylie Atkinson hit a leadoff walk off homerun to start the bottom half of the seventh to give Riverside the victory.

Idaho State had five hits, led by Lopez' two-for-four day. Amanda Fitzsimmons took the loss as she went six innings, allowed five hits, three runs while striking out six.

Idaho State concludes play at UC Riverside on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. mountain time against Illinois Chicago.
