POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team battled UC Davis tough but a late rally in the bottom of the seventh inning propelled the Aggies past the Bengals, 3-2. Against Sacramento State later in the afternoon, the two teams were scoreless through eight innings but Sacramento State scored one run in the bottom of the ninth inning to earn the win.
The Bengals had five hits, led by
Vicky Galasso's two-for-three afternoon with two RBIs. Becky Simonsen,
Hailey Breakwell and
Shaundee Garrett each had one hit.
Haley Douglas took the loss, going 6.2 innings, allowing 10 hits and striking out three.
UC Davis took a 1-0 lead in the second inning but in the top of the sixth the Bengals countered with two runs to take a 2-1 lead. The inning started with Garrett singling up the middle and Simonsen reach base on a bunt. Then with one out Breakwell had an infield single that set up Galasso's two RBI single down the left field line.
In the loss to Sacramento State, the Bengals had eight hits and held Sacramento State to only three hits behind the pitching of
Kelsi Ott,
Amanda Fitzsimmons and
Haley Douglas. Ott went 4.2 innings and allowed three hits and one strike out. Fitzsimmons went the next 1.2 innings and Douglas pitched the final 2.1 innings.
Offensively, Galasso was 3-for-4 at the plate and six different Bengals had hits.
Idaho State closes out the Aggie Stampede on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. vs. UC Davis.
