Bengals Host Utah for Home Opener

Idaho State plays Utah on Thursday at 4 p.m.

POCATELLO, Idaho-  After 23 games on the road, the Idaho State softball team plays its first home games this week, starting Thursday at 4 p.m. vs. Utah of the Pac 12 conference. The Bengals then host Seattle U on March 31-April 1 at 12 p.m. in the first Pacific Coast Softball Conference series.

Utah leads the overall series 15-5 and has won the last seven meetings. The two teams met last year in Salt Lake City where Utah won 8-0 in five innings. The Bengals last win over Utah was a 4-3 victory in Pocatello on April 4, 1982.

Utah is 22-8 and 0-3 in Pac 12 play. Whitney Holm leads the Utes with a batting average of .424, eight home runs and 29 RBIs. Utah is hitting .306 as a team and as a combined era of 1.94 in the circle. Generra Nielson leads the Utes in the circle with a 16-6 record and a 1.29 era.

Vicky Galasso leads the Bengals offensively with a .338 batting average with three homeruns and 17 RBIs. Amanda Fitzsimmons has three homeruns and 14 RBIs for the Bengals.  Fitzsimmons has recorded two wins for ISU in the circle.

Following Thursday's game, Idaho State returns to the field for the Pacific Coast Softball Conference home opener at Miller Ranch Stadium vs. Seattle U on Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1. Both days are double headers and both games begin at 12 p.m. Just before 12 p.m. for Saturday's game the dedication ceremony for Miller Ranch Stadium will take place on the field. All Idaho State softball games are free to the public.
