POCATELLO, Idaho- The much awaited home opener at Miller Ranch Stadium finally came. Although the outcome wasn't what the Bengals hoped in the 10-2 loss to Utah in five innings, the Bengal softball team was excited to play their first-ever game in its own facility.
“The field was great,” Idaho State coach
Julie Wright said. “It was great to be out here. It was a nice environment. I just wish the weather would have been a little better. I was pleased with the field and how it looked. Our facilities guys really came through.”
Idaho State scored its two runs on four hits while Utah had 10 runs on 12 hits.
Courtney Dial led the Bengal offense was going 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs and one run. Dial scored the Bengals only runs with a two-run blast in the second inning.
“
Courtney Dial was outstanding today,” Wright said. “She had the double, homerun and made a great play in the field where she made a cut the way she is supposed to.”
Kelsi Ott took the loss and pitched 2.1 innings, allowing eight hits and five runs.
Amanda Fitzsimmons tossed the final 2.2 innings and allowed four hits and five runs.
“We just have to be better in the circle,” Wright said.
Utah took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Bengals came back with a two-run second inning.
Gabby Lopez started the inning with a walk and Dial followed with her homer to left field.
Utah answered back with a four run third inning and five runs in the fifth inning.
