POCATELLO, Idaho- The much awaited dedication ceremony for Miller Ranch Stadium finally arrived on Saturday. Businesses, local dignitaries, donors along with university and athletic administrators were on hand and recognized before the start of Saturday's doubleheader vs. Seattle.

The ceremony culminated in the crowd being able to hear from Sylvia Papenberg and former Bengal pitcher Kandis Clesson throwing out the first pitch.

“The ceremony was awesome,” Idaho State coach Julie Wright said. “It was so special to see all the groups of people out there who helped make this possible. To see them out with their families and to listen to Sylvia talk for a little bit was exciting. We are just so thankful for everything everybody did to make this happen.”

In the first two games of a four-game series, the Bengals dropped 5-3 and 4-0 contests to Seattle in Pacific Coast Softball Conference play.

The Bengals had 12 hits in the two games and gave up 14 hits. Amanda Fitzsimmons was solid in the circle. She combined to pitch eight innings in the two games and allowed only eight hits while striking out 12 and allowing no walks. The Seattle hitters hit .179 off Fitzsimmons.

“Amanda was tremendous on the mound today,” Wright said. “Our one and two pitchers are hurt. Amanda has done a great job carrying the load when she shouldn't be. We can't get our other pitchers healthy enough at this point in time. I am really proud of her effort today.”

Offensively, Gabby Lopez and Becky Simonsen each had three hits in the two games while Fitzsimmons and Hailey Breakwell had two. The Bengals had four hits in the 5-3 loss and eight hits in the 4-0 loss.

“Offensively we were terrible today,” Wright said. “We just had a discussion to stop over thinking things and attack the ball.”

The four-game series with Seattle concludes Sunday at 11 a.m. All Idaho State softball games are free to the public.
