POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team scored two runs with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to win game 2 of a doubleheader at Northern Colorado, 4-2. Idaho State lost game 1, 11-10 after leading 8-0 through three innings.

Idaho State is now 8-32 and 4-10 in Pacific Coast Softball Conference play while Northern Colorado is 20-26 and 5-9 in league play.

ISU smacked the ball around for 26 hits and 11 RBIs in the two games. Katee Wiley led the attack by going 5-for-7 in the two games. Sidney Hoskins was 3-for-5 while Gabby Lopez was 5-for-9 with four RBIs and Hailey Breakwell was 3-for-6 with one homerun and four RBIs.

“The offense was tremendous all day,” Idaho State coach Julie Wright said. “We need to come out tomorrow with the same effort and concentration. Breakwell, Lopez and Wiley all had great days offensively.”

Amanda Fitzsimmons earned the win in game two, tossing the last five innings, where she allowed three hits, struck out six and gave up only two walks. Fitzsimmons went the first six innings of game 1. Christina Rayner and Kelsi Ott saw action in the seventh inning with Rayner suffering the loss.

“Fitzsimmons bounced back nicely in game two,” Wright said. “We have some injuries on the mound so we really need her to play big.  I was very disappointed in our pitching at the end of the first game. When you score 10 runs, that ought to be enough.”

In the game 2 victory, ISU scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Lopez singled up the middle and Breakwell followed with a double. Lopez would score on a wild pitch and Fitzsimmons drove home Breakwell on an RBI single.

The Bears scored their runs in the first two innings to tie the game at 2-2. In the top of the seventh with one out, Breakwell walked and then with two outs, Vicky Galasso smacked a double to left-center, moving Breakwell to third. Breakwell would score on a wild pitch and Courtney Dial drove home Galasso on a single.

In the game 1 loss, ISU led 8-0 after three innings after scoring three runs in the first and second innings and two in the third. Northern Colorado scored three runs in the fourth and sixth innings and five in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Breakwell hit a homerun in the game.  Lopez had four hits in the game, Wiley three, Becky Simonsen two, Breakwell two and Hoskins two.

The series resumes on Sunday starting at 12 p.m.
