Bengal Softball Live Blogging

ISU closes out the 2012 season with six games, five being at home.

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team closes out the 2012 season this week with six games against teams from the state of Utah. On Tuesday, April 24, ISU hosts Utah State at Miller Ranch Stadium at 4 p.m. The Bengals then travel to Utah State for a 4 p.m. game in Logan a day later. The season ends back at Miller Ranch Stadium, April 28-29, vs. Utah Valley in doubleheaders that start at 12 p.m. each day.

The Bengals are 9-33 and 5-11 in Pacific Coast Softball Conference play. They are coming off splitting a four-game series at Northern Colorado over the weekend, winning 4-2 and 10-9 in eight innings.

Utah State is 15-30 and 3-12 in WAC play. The Aggies are hitting .250 as a team and led by Christine Thompson's .426 average. Mandy Harmon is 7-14 in the circle for Utah State.  Utah State leads the overall series with the Bengals 23-9 but last year ISU won two of three for USU.

Since the 2010 season, Idaho State is 6-9 against schools from the WAC. This year Idaho State beat BYU 7-4. Other wins against WAC schools have come against Utah State, San Jose State and Boise State.

Utah Valley is currently 27-19-1 and 8-8 in Pacific Coast Softball Conference play. UVU is hitting .270 as a team and Tiffany Mills leads the Wolverines in the circle with a 14-13 record in 178.2 innings of work. Mills also boasts a 2.59 era. UVU leads the overall series 18-8 but Idaho State did take three of four games from Utah Valley last year in Orem.

Vicky Galasso leads the Bengals offensively with a .318 batting average, four homeruns and 24 RBIs. Amanda Fitzsimmons is batting .311 with five homeruns and 33 RBIs and she is also leading the Bengals in the circle with an 8-10 record in 132.2 innings.

Fitzsimmons, Sidney Hoskins, Katee Wiley and Gabby Lopez are all riding five-game  hitting streaks while Fitzsimmons has had eight multiple RBI games and Breakwell has 11 multiple hit games.

In last weekends' four game series at Northern Colorado, ISU had one of its best offensive performances of the season by hitting .386 in the four games. Sidney Hoskins was 7-for-11 in the four games while Wiley was 7-for-14. Idaho State pounded out 50 hits in the four games. Fitzsimmons earned the two wins in the circle for the Bengals.
