Live Blog vs. Boise State

Idaho State hosts Boise State on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team returns to Miller Ranch Stadium on Wednesday at 4 p.m. for a single-game vs. Boise State. 

This is the first meeting between the two teams since the 2010 season. The two teams were scheduled to play twice in Boise earlier in March but weather prevented the games from taking place. Boise State leads the overall series 8-3. The Bengals won the last two meetings, 7-5 and 5-3 in Boise during the 2010 season.

Boise State, a member of the Mountain West Conference, boasts a 25-13 record and is hitting .283 as a team. Tara Glover leads the Broncos with a .444 batting average while Devon Bridges is hitting .324 with seven homeruns and 21 RBIs. The Bronco pitching staff has a combined era of 2.73 and Aubray Zell leads the way with a 15-8 mark.

Idaho State is led offensively by Vicky Galasso and Courtney Darby. Galasso is hitting .307 with three homeruns and 17 RBIs while Darby saw her first action of the season this past weekend against Seattle and went 4-for-8 at the plate with one run and one double. Amanda Fitzsimmons leads the Bengals in the circle with a 305 record and a 4.80 era.

Idaho State plays at Portland State this weekend on Friday and Saturday and returns to Miller Ranch Stadium on Monday, April 9 for a 4 p.m. contest against BYU.

Strength of Schedule
The Bengal softball team has played a tough schedule in 2012. Currently ISU has played three teams that are in the NFCA Top 25 poll in Washington (No. 4), Hawaii (No. 15) and Oregon State (No. 25). In the ESPN Top 25 poll Washington is ranked No. 3, Hawaii No. 18 and Oregon State, Nebraska and New Mexico are all receiving votes. Idaho State has played six teams with an RPI of 41 or less in Washington (10), Hawaii (11), Oregon State (25), Texas Tech (29), New Mexico (34) and BYU (41). Four other Bengal opponents have RPIs between 53-64 in Boise State (53), Minnesota (57), Utah (61) and Ohio State (64).

Hitting Streaks
Vicky Galasso and Becky Simonsen each have had 10 game hitting streaks during the season. The longest current streak is five by Amanda Fitzsimmons.
