Bengals Drop Final Two Games at Portland State

POCATELLO, Idaho-  The Idaho State softball team lost the final two games of the four-game series at Portland State, falling 7-0 and 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

In the 7-0 loss, Idaho State was held to two hits while the Vikings had 10 hits on the seven runs. Amanda Fitzsimmons and Shaundee Garrett had the hits for ISU. Fitzsimmons went four innings in the circle and allowed nine hits, one walk and four strike outs. Haley Douglas tossed the final three and allowed only one hit and no runs while striking out two.

The Vikings scored two runs in the first, two in the second and three in the fourth inning.

In the final game of the series, PSU led 1-0 after the first inning and 2-0 after the top of the sixth inning. Idaho State answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Becky Simonsen led off with a leadoff walk and after stealing second she was brought home by an RBI double from Vicky Galasso.

Kelsi Ott took the loss but pitched well in the circle as she tossed five innings, allowing five hits, two runs, two walks and striking out five. Haley Douglass pitched the sixth and struck out one while Fitzsimmons pitched the seventh and struck out the side.

The Bengals are back in action on Monday when they host BYU at 4 p.m. at Miller Ranch Stadium. There will be a tailgate party starting at 2:30 p.m. on Cadet Field (between Reed Gym and Rendezous) and Kiwi Loco will be giving out 250 free yogurts. The ISU spirit squad and the marching band will also be present.
