Bengals Begin 2012 Season This Week

ISU Hosts an Exhibition with WWCC before officially opening season against North Dakota State and New Mexico State

BENGAL OVERVIEW

Idaho State opens the 2012 season this week. ISU hosts Walla Walla Community College Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 11 a.m. before opening the season officially against North Dakota State and New Mexico State at the Holiday Inn Classic in Boise, Idaho. ISU won its season opener against Southern Utah during the 2011 campaign.

ABOUT IDAHO STATE
The 2012 Idaho State women's soccer team returns a core of experienced players across the board with 19 total returners including six seniors and seven juniors. The squad also returns six sophomores, many of whom saw considerable playing time in their freshman seasons last fall. Notable returners include Big Sky Co-Newcomer of the Year and Big Sky All-Conference Honorable Mention honoree Amanda Ellsworth, all-conference second team selection Ashley Jones and all-conference honorable mention selections Rachel Strawn and Mikaela Carrillo.

The top goal scorers from the 2011 season will be back in 2012. Ellsworth led ISU last season with seven goals, 15 points, 40 shots and three game-winning goals. Jones recorded four goals throughout the season while Strawn scored two. In her freshman campaign, Allyssa Kenney was one of the top scorers for the Bengals with three goals on the season while Kiley Godfrey matched Strawn with two.

IDAHO STATE DEFEATS ALUMNI 7-0
The Idaho State women's soccer team defeated the alumni 7-0 Saturday afternoon at Davis Field. The Bengals outshot the alumni 25-6. Senior Rachel Strawn, sophomore Amanda Ellsworth and junior Kiley Godfrey led ISU with two goals apiece in the contest.

BENGALS SELECTED SEVENTH IN PRESEASON POLL
The Idaho State women's soccer team has been selected to finish seventh in the 2012 Big Sky preseason poll. ISU received 39 points in the poll after finishing the 2011 season with a 2-5 conference record. ISU finished ahead of Eastern Washington, North Dakota and Southern Utah.

ABOUT WALLA WALLA COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Walla Walla Community College won the NWAACC Championship last season, capping the squad's third straight NWAACC title. The Warriors have also won the NWAACC East Region Championship for nine straight seasons. WWCC is led by head coach Chad Bodnar who has compiled a 161-6-6 as a women's soccer head coach.

ABOUT NORTH DAKOTA STATE
North Dakota State is led by first-year head coach Mark Cook. The Bison finished the 2011 season 15-4-2 and are returning four starters to the squad this season including All-Summit League Second Team selection Holly Christian and All-Summit All-Freshman team member Taylor Stainbrook as well as Katie Tallas and Tristyn Wakzak. The Bison are returning 10 letterwinners and welcome 12 newcomers. This will be the first meeting between the two programs.

ABOUT NEW MEXICO STATE
New Mexico State is led by second-year head coach Blair Quinn. The Aggies finished sixth in the WAC last season with a 2-3-2 conference record and finished 10-8-3 overall. NMSU
was a 2011 WAC semifinalist and are returning nine starters. The squad also has 12 other returners as well as five newcomers. This is the third meeting between the two teams. In the last meeting, ISU tied New Mexico State 1-1 on Sept. 16, 2011 in Pocatello, Idaho.
