OREM, Utah- Before the start of Idaho State's overtime contest at Utah Valley, Bengal coach Allison Gibson changed her speech on what she told her team before the extra period.

“I typically give the same speech but this time I just told them 'this is just what we need as a team,'” she said. “I told them that this is important to see where we are at going into conference play next weekend.”

The speech worked perfectly as Rachel Strawn scored her seventh goal of the season in the seventh minute of overtime to lift the Bengals to a 2-1 victory at UVU. The Bengals snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 5-3 going into the start of Big Sky Conference play next weekend.

The Bengals controlled the match as they had 27 shots to the Wolverine's 12. ISU had nine shots on goal to UVU's six.

“To have 27 shots is tremendous,” Gibson said. “You have to give credit to our attack from getting down field. Our attack offensively got quality serves into the box. Our offense and fitness base was really good.”

After a scoreless first half, ISU got on the board in the 55th minute on an Anna Pingree goal. She took a pass from Amanda Ellsworth inside the box to put it in the back of the net. UVU tied the game at one in the 88th minute to send the game into overtime.

ISU won the game in the 97th minute when Strawn took a pass from Ellsworth and Madeline Gochnour and dribbled to the right side of the field where she scored inside the 18.

Idaho State plays at Montana and Eastern Washington next weekend before returning to Pocatello to host SUU and Weber State on September 28 and 30.
