Bengals Head to California to Face CSUB, LMU

This will be the first meeting with both schools for Idaho State

BENGAL OVERVIEW

The Bengals (4-1-0) travel to California this week for a pair of match-ups. ISU faces CSU Bakersfield Friday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. The Bengals then take on Loyola Marymount Sunday, Sept. 9 at 12 p.m. in Los Angeles, Calif., at Sullivan Field. ABOUT IDAHO STATE
The Bengals are 4-1-0 on the season and are led by senior forward Rachel Strawn who has netted six goals in five games. The 5-2 senior also leads ISU in points (12), shots (15), shots on goal (11) and game-winning goals (3). Sophomore forward Amanda Ellsworth leads the assist effort with three on the season. At goal, sophomore Maria Dela Cruz has seven saves and two goals allowed each. ISU has scored 13 goals this season and recorded 79 total shots.

LAST WEEK IN BENGAL SOCCER
Last week Idaho State shutout Idaho 2-0 and lost to Boise State 3-2 in overtime in the 15th annual Governor's Cup. Senior Rachel Strawn scored her sixth goal of the season and seventh career game-winner against the Vandals. Anna Pingree scored three goals over the weekend. She scored ISU's second goal against UI and scored both goals for the Bengals against Boise State. Pingree tied the score 1-1in the 58th minute and put ISU up 2-1 in the 69th minute.

PINGREE NAMED CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Pingree scored three goals over the weekend at the Governor's Cup. Pingree helped ISU shutout Idaho 2-0 with a volley on a corner kick for the goal to put the Bengals up 2-0. The Bengals improved to 4-0-0 after the win over Idaho, the first time ISU has started at 4-0 since the 2004 season. Pingree scored two goals against Boise State Sunday in a 3-2 overtime loss. She tied the game 1-1 in the 58th minute and scored again in the 69th minute to put ISU up 2-1. Pingree has three goals on the season and two assists for a total of eight points.

SOCCER STANDOUT: RACHEL STRAWN
After scoring three goals and helping lead ISU to wins against North Dakota State and New Mexico State at the Holiday Inn Classic in Boise, Idaho, senior forward Rachel Strawn was named Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week for matches played Aug. 17-20. Strawn has scored six goals and posted 15 shots with 11 shots on goal so far this season. She has recorded 12 points and scored three game-winning goals.

ABOUT CSU BAKERSFIELD
This is the first meeting between the two programs. CSU Bakersfield is 1-4-1 on the season. The team tied 0-0 in its last contest with Fresno Pacific. The Road Runners lost a game before that to Loyola Marymount 2-0. Three players have scored a goal this season for CSUB: Erica Shelton, Joanna Ortiz and Emily Noethe. Noethe has also scored one game-winning goal. Sam Pena leads in assists for CSUB with two on the season. Goalkeeper Tori Ornela has 24 saves and nine goals allowed this season.

ABOUT LOYOLA MARYMOUNT
Loyola Marymount is 4-2-0 on the season and is on a one-game losing streak after falling 4-2 to Wisconsin. Dairen Pyka leads the Lions with three goals and seven points on the season. She has also recorded two game-winning goals this year. Jocelyn Blankenship is leading  the team in assists with two so far this season. Goalkeeper Brittany Jagger has recorded 14 saves and two shutouts this season and allowed nine goals. This will be the first meeting between the Bengals and the Lions.
