BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Freshman forward Vanessa Cabilan scored her first career goal as a Bengal Friday evening against CSU Bakersfield. Cabilan was the lone goal scorer for ISU as the Bengals dropped the contest 5-1 in Bakersfield.

Senior forward Rachel Strawn recorded four shots with one on goal Friday night and had her first assist of the season on Cabilan's goal. Senior defender Alishia Cairl posted one shot with one on goal. Senior midfielder Anna Pingree posted one shot.

CSU Bakersfield dominated the first half of the game, going up 5-0 at the half. ISU rallied back in the second half, going toe-to-toe with CSUB in shots (4) and corner kicks (1). Sophomore goalkeeper Maria Dela Cruz recorded five saves during the night and three in the second half alone. She allowed just one goal in 56 minutes of play.

“For the past two games we have not come out to play until the second half and unfortunately we had had to learn the hard way that soccer is a game of two halves,” ISU Head Coach Allison Gibson said. “We played a tremendous second half but by then the game was totally out of reach. We will fix this and learn from it as we move forward.”

CSUB's Erica Shelton led the Runners with two goals during the contest.

The Bengals continue their road trip in California Sunday, Sept. 9 against Loyola Marymount at 12 p.m.
