Bengals Play at SUU on Saturday; Host Weber State on Monday

POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State returns to the court on Saturday, Jan. 12 when it plays at Big Sky Conference newcomer Southern Utah at 7 p.m. On Monday, January 14, ISU hosts Big Sky Conference rival Weber State at 7 p.m. in Holt Arena.  All games can be heard on 102.5 KMGI and 930 KSEI along with being viewed and heard online at isubengals.com.

Southern Utah leads the overall series 12-6.  The last time the two teams met was in the 2004-05 season where SUU won 82-79 in Cedar City and 71-70 in overtime in Pocatello. Four of the last five meetings have gone to overtime. Southern Utah is 3-1 in Big Sky Conference play and hosts Weber State on Thursday night. Jackson Stevenett leads SUU in scoring at 14.9 points and 6.3 rebounds a game. Damon Heuir is scoring 14.4 points a game and Jayson Cheesman has 31 of the team's 70 blocks this year. Southern Utah is shooting .423 pervent from the field and averaging 64.8 points a game.

Weber State leads the overall series 75-47. The two teams split last year winning, 64-62 thanks to a Kenny McGowen buzzer-beater 3-pointer in Pocatello and lost 78-64 in Ogden.  Weber State has won seven of the last eight meetings. In two games against Weber State last year ISU shot .402 percent from the field and .375 percent from the 3-point line (18-48). Idaho State averaged 12.5 turnovers a game against the Wildcats while forcing 13.

Last week, Idaho State lost 66-53 at home to North Dakota on Thursday, January 3 before beating Northern Colorado, 86-63 two days later. Melvin Morgan had a career-high 27 points in the victory.

SUU Coaching Connection
After being named head coach, Evans hired three guys who played for him at SUU. Joining the Bengal coaching staff is Andy Ward, who played at SUU from 92-94 and Jay Collins. Collins played for coach Evans from 2001-03. Graduate Assistant David Marek played for Evans from 2005-07.

Shooting From Long Range
Idaho State hit 15 3-pointers in the 23 point win over Northern Colorado on Saturday, Jan. 5. The 15 3-pointers is the most since hitting 15 vs. Montana Tech in 2004. The single-game school record for most 3-pointers made in a game is 16 vs. Montana on Jan. 18, 2001.

Starting 5
Tomas Sanchez and Melvin Morgan are the only Bengals who have started every game this year. Eight different players have started for Idaho State this season. In the last five games, ISU has had the same starting lineup in four of the last five games.

Welcome Back Sherrod
Senior Sherrod Baldwin returned to the Bengal lineup at Washington State after being academically ineligible for the fall semester. He scored six points on 3-for-5 shooting in 15 minutes of play. He scored a season-high 11 points in the Jan. 5 win over Northern Colorado and was a perfect 3-for-3 from the 3-point line.  In his three games back is shooting 50 percent from the field (8-16) and is 3-for-5 from the 3-point line while averaging seven points a game in 17 minutes of action.
