Bengals Host Weber State Today

POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State returns home for a busy week of games as the Bengals host Weber State on Monday at 7 p.m. Sacramento State and NAU then visit Holt Arena on Thursday, January 17 and Saturday, January 19. Both games begin at 7 p.m. and the games can be heard live on 102.5 KMGI or 102.5 KSEI. Fans can also log onto isubengals.com for information on how to listen or watch online.

Weber State leads the overall series 75-47. The two teams split last year winning, 64-62 thanks to a Kenny McGowen buzzer-beater 3-pointer in Pocatello and lost 78-64 in Ogden.  Weber State has won seven of the last eight meetings. In two games against Weber State last year ISU shot .402 percent from the field and .375 percent from the 3-point line (18-48). Idaho State averaged 12.5 turnovers a game against the Wildcats while forcing 13. Weber State leads the Big Sky Conference in scoring at 79.1 points a game and in scoring defense at 60.7 points a game.

In the Bengals only game of the week, they picked up their first road win of the year, winning 54-53 at SUU. Tomas Sanchez had a career-high 18 points while Chris Hansen added 17 points. Andre Hatchett tied his season high for rebounds with seven. ISU shot 34 percent from the field and held SUU to 32 percent.

Free Throws Down The Stretch
In the final five minutes of a game the Idaho State men's basketball team is shooting .733 percent from the line (53-73). Melvin Morgan is the top free throw shooter as he is a perfect 13-for-13. Chris Hansen is 9-for-10 ( 90 percent) and Tomas Sanchez is 11-for-14 (.786). Nick Mason is a perfect 4-for-4 and Jakub Kusmieruk is 2-for-2. No other player is shooting above 70 percent during the final five minutes of a game.

Shooting From Long Range
Idaho State hit 15 3-pointers in the 23 point win over Northern Colorado on Saturday, Jan. 5. The 15 3-pointers is the most since hitting 15 vs. Montana Tech in 2004. The single-game school record for most 3-pointers made in a game is 16 vs. Montana on Jan. 18, 2001.

Starting 5
Tomas Sanchez and Melvin Morgan are the only Bengals who have started every game this year. Eight different players have started for Idaho State this season. In the last six games, ISU has had the same starting lineup in five of the last six games.

It's a First
Saturday's win at Southern Utah was the first time that Idaho State has won a game when the team trailed at halftime (28-26), was out rebounded (43-34), shot less than 40 percent (34%) from the field and less than 70 percent from the free throw line (59.3%, 16-27).

Newcomers Taking Charge
This year's newcomers are averaging 28.9 points of the overall 52.3 points the Bengals are averaging a game.  Chris Hansen is scoring 10.5 points a game and Tomas Sanchez is netting 9.9. In conference games, ISU is scoring 59.2 points with the newcomers averaging 33.2 points a game. Sanchez is scoring 11.6 points in league play while Hansen is scoring 11.4 points.
