POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State returns home for a busy week of games, hosting Sacramento State and NAU on Thursday, January 17 and Saturday, January 19. Idaho State vs. Sacramento State
Idaho State leads the overall series 25-14. The two teams are 2-2 in the last four meetings with ISU winning 68-67 in Sacramento and losing 70-67 in Pocatello in 2012. Sacramento State is 8-6 overall and 3-3 in league play. John Dickson leads the Hornets in scoring at 13.9 points and 5.6 rebounds a game. Sacramento State is scoring 69.4 points a game and shooting .419 percent from the floor.
Idaho State vs. Northern Arizona
Idaho State leads the series 50-40 and has won the last three meetings, winning 79-73 in Flagstaff and 78-62 in Pocatello. The Lumberjacks are 5-11 and 2-4 in league play. DeWayne Russell is scoring 16.2 points a game. As a team NAU is averaging 66.1 points a game and shooting 41.8 percent from the field.
The Week That Was...
Last week Idaho State won its first road game of the season, beating SUU 54-53. The Bengals hosted Weber State on Monday, Jan. 14 and lost 70-54.
Chris Hansen led ISU with 15 points.
Conference Play = Improved Numbers in Scoring
Since the start of Big Sky Conference play, the scoring has improved individually and as a team. In nonconference games
Melvin Morgan averaged 11.7 points and that average is up to 13 in league.
Chris Hansen averaged 10 and that has improved to 12 while
Tomas Sanchez averaged 8.9 points in nonleague games and is scoring 11.6 in Big Sky contests.
Andre Hatchett has improved his average from 5.7 points to 7.3 points and
Neveij Walters averaged three points in non league games and 6.2 is league. As a team ISU scored 48.4 points a game in nonconference contests and in Big Sky games that average jumps to 58.3
Free Throws Down the Stretch
In the final five minutes of a game the Idaho State men's basketball team is shooting .740 percent from the line (57-77).
Melvin Morgan is the top free throw shooter as he is a perfect 15-for-15.
Chris Hansen is 9-for-10 ( 90 percent) and
Tomas Sanchez is 11-for-14 (.786).
Nick Mason is a perfect 4-for-4 and
Jakub Kusmieruk is 2-for-2. No other player is shooting above 70 percent during the final five minutes of a game.
Shooting From Long Range
Idaho State hit 15 3-pointers in the 23 point win over Northern Colorado on Saturday, Jan. 5. The 15 3-pointers is the most since hitting 15 vs. Montana Tech in 2004. The single-game school record for most 3-pointers made in a game is 16 vs. Montana on Jan. 18, 2001.
Starting 5
Melvin Morgan is the only player who has started every game for Idaho State this year. Nine different players have started for Idaho State this season. In the last six games, ISU has had the same starting lineup in five of the last six games.
