Bengals Open the Season with a 99-62 Victory

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team opened the season with a 99-62 win over Evergreen on Saturday night at Reed Gym.  Despite the win, Head Coach Bill Evans was not pleased with how his team performed.

"Our process to get to where we wanted to be at the end of the game was not good," Evans said. "The Kool-aid was unsweetened. I don't think we were selfish. I don't think our energy and focus was very good.  We turned the ball over too much. That was not good."

Idaho State shot 50.8 percent from the field and held Evergreen to 37 percent shooting. Jeffrey Solarin had 23 points and 10 rebounds while Chris Hansen had 14 and a career-high 10 rebounds. Tomas Sanchez had 15 points  and Evann Hall had 11 and seven rebounds while Justin Smith added 11.

Evans did say that he was pleased with the performance and effort of Solarin and Hansen.

The Bengals out rebounded Evergreen 50-28 and forced 19 turnovers. Idaho State did turn the ball over 17 times and had only 12 assists.

The Bengals never trailed in the game and led by as many as 37 points. ISU led 49-29 at halftime. The Bengals built and early 23-4 lead eight minutes into the game after two free throws by Smith with 11:54 left in the first half.

Evergreen got no closer than 18 points at 56-38 with 14:58 left in the game. The final score was the largest margin for the Bengals.

Idaho State returns to the court on November 15 when it plays at Arizona State at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on the Pac 12 Network.
