PORTLAND, Oregon – The third-seeded Idaho State Bengals beat sixth -seeded Northern Colorado 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky Volleyball championship at the Stott Center in Portland, Ore.

The Bengals advance to play Co-Big Sky Champion North Dakota in the Semifinals at 6 p.m. mtn.

The Bengals were in trouble early in the first set and looked out of sorts but ISU went on a 14-4 run to win the set 25-21.

"We weren't communicating very well early on," Head Coach Chad Teichert said. "When that improved it had an impact on every aspect of our game."

Makenzie Filer led Idaho State with 16 kills and three blocks while Tressa Lyman was stellar on the attack and in the backline with 15 kills and 12 digs.

"Makenzie really has made big improvements the second half of the year," Teichert said. "The impact that she has on our team is incredible."

Lori Mendenhall-Lee had 44 assists, five kills and eight digs.

Kendra Cunningham led the Bears with 17 kills and 10 digs. Ashley Guthrie had 36 assists for NC.

Idaho State had seven service aces including the match point, a tricky server to the 10-foot line by Filer.

The Win was the third of the season for ISU over the Bears. The Bengals have lost both matches to North Dakota who they will play tonight in the Semis.

"They are very good, especially in the middle," Teichert said. "We will have to serve very well and eliminate the mistakes that we made early in the match this morning."
