POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team lost 61-57 to Bakersfield on Saturday night at Holt Arena.  The Bengals dropped to 3-6 while Bakersfield improved to 7-7.

Tomas Sanchez led ISU with 17 points while Chris Hansen had 14 points and Jeffrey Solarin 12 points and nine rebounds. The Bengals shot 43.2 percent from the field and had only 11 turnovers. Idaho State did shoot 52 percent in the second half.

Bakersfield shot 45.8 percent but 56 percent in the second half. CSUB out rebounded ISU 32-29 and was led by Javonte Maynor's 17 points on five 3-pointers.

"You have to give Maynor a lot of credit," Idaho State coach Bill Evans said. "That is a hard shot to make."

The Bengals took a 57-56 lead with 1:02 left in the game after a basket by Hansen. Bakersfield then scored the final five points of the game and ISU had one turnover and a foul to seal the CSUB win.

"This game is really pretty simple," Evans said. "We didn't make the play we needed to make to win the game. It is not rocket science. I don't think we executed well tonight. The team that makes the fewest mistakes is the one that wins."

For the game there were 11 ties and eight lead changes. Idaho State begins Big Sky Conference play on Jan. 2 vs. Portland State at 7 p.m. at ICCU Court in Holt Arena. The Bengals also host Eastern Washington on Jan. 4 at 7 p.m.

"Our guys are trying hard and have great integrity," Evans said. "We are going to come out on Thursday and be ready to go."
