LAS VEGAS – The Bengals allowed just seven hits and three runs in a 3-2 loss to Pac-12 foe Oregon State Saturday night in the second day of the Easton Desert Classic hosted by UNLV.
Oregon State scored one run in each of the first three innings with two runs coming from homeruns and led 3-0 until the bottom of the sixth.
In the inning, Idaho State loaded the bases with two walks (
Katee Wiley and
Becky Molyneaux) and with freshman
Katelyn Marquez getting on base after getting hit by a pitch. That brought sophomore
Vicky Galasso to the plate. Galasso singled down the right field line to bring in Wiley. Then Fitzsimmons came to the plate and singled to center field to score Molynaux.
Idaho State held OSU to no runs in the top of the seventh but was unable to score in the second half of the inning, giving OSU the win 3-2.
Fitsimmons pitched all seven innings and recorded four strikeouts in the game.
“Consistency is the key and we haven't quite learned how to put focus and intensity into every pitch,” ISU Head Coach
Julie Wright said. “Fitzsimmons is a warrior. She's battled and pitched in every game we have played so far. She's showing strong senior leadership and coming out and doing her job. I was proud of the way she rebounded against Oregon State. She shut them down in the latter half of the game and gave us an opportunity at the end.”
Idaho State fell to 4-5 on the season while Oregon State improved to 6-3.
The Bengals play their final game of the tournament Sunday at 2:30 p.m. MST against San Jose State. Live results for the contest are available at
