LAS VEGAS – Idaho State softball wrapped up play at the three-day Easton Desert Classic with a 10-4 loss to San Jose State.
Idaho State had three homeruns in the contest hit by sophomore
Vicky Galasso, freshman
Maddy Hickman and sophomore
Hailey Breakwell.
The Bengals got on the board in the fourth inning as Galasso led off with a homer to left field. Senior
Amanda Fitzsimmons followed her with a single to third base and came home on a homerun by Breakwell. San Jose State scored one run in the bottom of the inning and led ISU 8-3 heading into the top of the fifth.
San Jose State scored two more runs in the fifth inning, leading ISU 10-3 as the Bengals entered the sixth. Hickman led off with a homerun to right center but her run would be the only one for ISU in that inning.
The Bengals allowed no runs from SJSU in the bottom of the sixth but were unable to score any runs in the seventh leading to a 10-4 final score in San Jose State's favor.
The Bengals are now 4-6 on the season while San Jose State improves to 5-5.
Idaho State travels to Santa Clara, Calif., next week for the Santa Clara Invitational. ISU plays four games in two days and faces San Jose State, Cal State Northridge, Santa Clara and Fresno State. The Bengals begin play Saturday, Feb. 23 against Cal State Northridge at 10 a.m. MST followed by San Jose State at 1:15 p.m. MST.
