Bengals Play Final Road Games at NAU and Sacramento State

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team plays its final two road games of the 2012-13 season this week when it plays at Northern Arizona on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 6:35 p.m. (MST) and at Sacramento State on Saturday, March 2 at 8:05 p.m. All games can be heard on 102.5 KMGI and 930 KSEI with Jerry Miller calling the action.

Idaho State vs. Northern Arizona
Idaho State leads the overall series 50-41. The last six meetings have been decided six points or less with the Bengals winning four of the meetings.  ISU is 4-2 in those meetings but did lose 60-55 at home to the Lumberjacks earlier this season. Idaho State won 79-73 in Flagstaff last year and lost 90-88 in overtime on Jan. 6, 2011. Three of the last six games have gone to overtime. The Bengals beat NAU, 90-88 in overtime in Pocatello on Feb. 12, 2011.

Scouting Northern Arizona
Northern Arizona is 10-17 and 7-9 in Big Sky Conference play. Gabe Rogers leads NAU at 17.4 points a game and DeWayne Russell is scoring 14.7. NAU is scoring 67 points a game and shooting .439 percent from the field. In conference games Rogers average increases to 19.5 points and Russell is scoring 13.9 points. NAU's shooting percentage increases to .465 in league play.

Idaho State vs. Sacramento State
Idaho State leads the series 26-14, winning earlier this year, 60-59, on Jan. 17 at Holt Arena. The two teams have split the season series the last two years as Idaho State won 68-67 in Sacramento and lost 70-67 at home last year and in the 2010-11 season, ISU won 68-63 in overtime in Pocatello and lost 74-63 at Sacramento State. 

Scouting Sacramento State
Sacramento State is 13-12 and 7-9 in Big Sky Conference play. Four Hornet players are scoring in double figures led by John Dickson's 13.2 points and 5.9 rebounds. Mikh McKinney is scoring 12.9 points. Sacramento State is averaging 66.4 points a game and shooting .352 percent from the field. In league play, McKinney is the team's top scorer at 13.3 points and Sacramento State is scoring 62.8 points a game and giving up 63.9.

The week that Was...
In Idaho State's only game of the week, the Bengals lost to Idaho 75-69 at Reed Gym on Saturday, Feb. 23. ISU had four players score in double figures led by Chris Hansen's 19 points and Tomas  Sanchez had 18 points. ISU shot 47.8 percent from the field, its third best shooting percentage of the season. The Bengal defense held Idaho to 38.7 percent shooting but the Vandals had 45 rebounds to the Bengals 23.

Best Defense in Bengal Basketball History
The Idaho State men's basketball team is turning in one of the best defensive performances in Bengal basketball history. This year's team is currently giving up only 63.5 points a game overall and in conference games ISU is giving up 63.6 points. This is the best mark since before the shot clock era as the previous best mark was 67.2 points overall by the 1986-87 team and the best mark for conference games only was 65.2 point done by the 2008-09 team and the 1986-87 team.
