POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball got solid pitching and strong offensive production to beat Santa Clara and Nevada by a score of 6-4 in each game. The Bengals are now 11-14 and the two teams will play again Sunday afternoon.
Kelsi Ott earned the win against Nevada by pitching a complete seven inning game, allowing six hits and four runs. Fitzsimmons picked up the win against Santa Clara.
The Bengal offense hit .345 in the two games led by
Katee Wiley going 4-6 with a run and an RBI.
Katelyn Marquez was 4-8 with two runs scored and
Vicky Galasso was 4-8 with two RBI and two runs.
Terah Blackwell also had three hits and
Becky Molyneaux two.
“Our defense was outstanding in the Santa Clara and Nevada games,” Idaho State coach
Julie Wright said. “Both Amanda and Kelsi didn't have their best stuff today but were brilliant when they had to be. Our offense continues to produce. It was a great team day.”

The Bengals scored their six runs on 11 hits and were led by Galasso and Marquez going 3-4. Wiley added two hits, an RBI and a run scored while Fitzsimmons earned the win in the circle by pitching a complete game, allowing seven hits, four runs and striking out three.
After Santa Clara took a 1-0 lead after the first inning, ISU scored a run in the first to tie the game thanks an RBI single by
Micheala Taylor.
Idaho State added two runs in the third on a Galasso RBI double and a Wiley sacrifice RBI. The lead extended to 5-1 after a Fitzsimmons RBI double. She would later score by stealing home.
Santa Clara scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning but ISU added a run in the bottom half of the inning to seal the win.
Idaho State 6 Nevada 4
Idaho State scored its six runs on nine hits and once again committed no errors in the field. Blackwell, Wiley and Molyneaux each had two hits and
Maddy Hickman had a home run.
The Bengals took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI from
Courtney Dial. The lead was extended to 5-0 after the top of the fifth inning. The scoring started with single to center field by Molyneaux and after a sacrifice bunt by Dial, Molyneaux would score on a Nevada fielding error. Galasso then reached on an in field single, scoring Marquez and Blackwell singled up the middle for the third run of the inning. Blackwell well would later score on a wild pitch to put ISU on top 5-0.
In the top of the sixth inning, Hickman led off with a home run down the right field line.
Nevada scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth but the Bengal defense held strong in the seventh to seal the Idaho State win.
Idaho State plays Santa Clara and 11 a.m. on Sunday and Nevada at 1:30 p.m.
