POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team opened Big Sky Conference play on Friday afternoon splitting a double header at SUU, losing 6-4 and winning 15-5 in five innings in game 2. The Bengals are 13-16 and 1-1 in league play.
The Bengal offense pounded the ball by hitting .444 on the day with 28 hits, one home run and 19 RBI. Nine different Bengals had hits with eight coming up with two or more.
Terah Blackwell led the attack by going 6-8 with two doubles, one home run, eight RBI and two runs.
Katelyn Marquez was 5-7 and scored five runs.
Kelsi Ott earned the win in game 2 by pitching a complete game, striking out three and allowing six hits.
Bailey Foster took the loss in game 1.
SUU 6 Idaho State 4
Idaho State led 4-0 after four innings but the T-Birds scored five runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to earn the win. Blackwell was 3-4 with three RBI and
Amanda Fitzsimmons was 2-4 with one run and
Hailey Breakwell had one RBI.
ISU 15 SUU 5 (5)
The Bengals scored early and often with a six run top of the first inning and then added two in the second, two in the third and five in the fourth. ISU had 19 hits in the win and was led by Marquez going 4-4 with three runs and one RBI. Blackwell and
Maddy Hickman also had three hits with
Vicky Galasso and
Courtney Dial recording two.
Idaho State had seven multiple base hits in the victory.
The series concludes Saturday at 12 p.m.
