ISU Falls to Utah and Cal State Fullerton

ISU scored all three runs on homeruns against Utah.

The Idaho State softball team is playing in Long Beach this weekend.

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team lost to Utah, 9-3 and Cal State Fullerton 5-1 in the second day of the Long Beach State Tournament on Saturday. The Bengals are now 6-11.

ISU hit three homeruns in the loss to Utah. Vicky Galasso, Terah Blackwell and Hailey Breakwell all homered for the Bengals. Utah scored five runs in the first three innings for ISU was able to get on the scoreboard.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Breakwell and Blackwell hit back-to-back homeruns to bring ISU within three runs at 5-2. The Utes then scored three runs in the fifth and Galasso added a homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning for Idaho State.

Idaho State had nine hits and two errors while Utah had 10 hits off three Bengal pitchers. Amanda Fitzsimmons pitched the first two innings with Bailey Foster pitching the next 2.2 and Jackie Valdez the final 2.1 innings.

In the loss to Fullerton, ISU was held to three hits and committed three errors in the field. Cal State Fullerton scored four runs in the second inning and ISU scored its run in the fifth on an RBI from Katee Wiley.

Wiley led ISU offensively by going 3-5 with an RBI in the two games. Galasso and Fitzsimmons also had two hits on the day.

Idaho State concludes play in Long Beach against Charleston Southern on Sunday morning.
