POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team returns to the field to host first-place Portland State on April 20-21 at 1 p.m. at Miller Ranch Stadium. The Bengals are 7-2 and sitting in second-place in the Big Sky Conference. All three games will have live stats and they can viewed on isubengals.com. Saturday's game will be broadcasted on KISU and live audio can be accessed at isubengals.com. Benny the Bengal, who won a National Championship recently will be at the field taking pictures with fans starting at 2:30 p.m.
Portland State leads the series 16-3. The Bengals lost three of four at Portland State last year with the ISU win being a 3-2 victory on April 6, 2012. Idaho State's two other wins came in 1981 and 1983.
It is a Sweep
The Idaho State softball team has swept its last two conference series, beating Weber State and Northern Colorado. The Bengals have won seven straight games and the school record for most consective wins is 10 by the 1979 team.
Hot Bat
Vicky Galasso has tied the school record for longest hitting streak as she currently has a 19-game hitting streak. Galasso has 19 multiple hit games and 10 multiple RBI games. Her .481 batting average is the best in the conference and she has a league best .571 batting average in conference games.
Offensive Power
The Idaho State softball team has already broke the team single-season home run record. The team currently has 51 and the record was 35 set by the 2011 team. ISU is currently hitting .333 as a team and no Bengal team has hit over .300 for a season since the program was brought back in 2007. The 1977 team hit .351. The best batting average was .286 in the 2009 season and .284 in 2010. ISU set the team-single season RBI record in the win at UVU. The team has 220 RBI on the season and the record was 182 set by the 2010 team.
Bengals Nearing Single Season Records
Members of the Idaho State softball team continues to climb the Top 10 in single-season records. Already,
Vicky Galasso has set the single-season record for runs scored (39) and she is second in hits (63), doubles (14), RBI (39) and slugging percentage (.870). Her batting average of .481 is the second-best average in program history.
Amanda Fitzsimmons has set the single-season record for home runs (13) and runs scored (39). Her .385 batting average is the eighth best average in program history and her 31 RBI ranks sixth.
Terah Blackwell's 40 RBI is an ISU single-season record and
Maddy Hickman ranks fifth in RBI with 35.
ISU Among Top in Big Sky Conference Overall Stats
The Bengals are first as a team in the conference in 12 different statistical categories. ISU ranks first in batting average (.333), slugging percentage (.551), on base percentage (.391), runs scored (235), hits (355), home runs (51), doubles (59), total bases (587), RBI (220), at bats (1065), hit by pitches (24) and stolen bases (44).
