POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team plays its home opener at Miller Ranch Stadium on Wednesday, April 3 at 4 p.m. vs. Utah State. For the home opener there will be live video streaming, audio, live stats and live blogging. Log onto isubengals.com.
Utah State leads the overall series 25-11. The two teams split a pair of games in Boise in March, losing, 3-2 and winning 9-0 in five innings. Idaho State is 4-3 against USU in the last seven meetings.
ISU Among Top in Big Sky Conference Overall Stats
The Bengals are first as a team in the conference in nine different statistical categories. ISU ranks first in batting average (.322), slugging percentage (.524), on base percentage (.378), runs scored (160), hits (265), home runs (37), total bases (431), RBI (149) and stolen bases (39). The Bengals are also second in doubles at 43. The 164 runs ISU has given up is the second fewest out of any team in the league.
Individual Bengals Among Big Sky Stat Leaders
Vicky Galasso ranks first in seven different conference statistical categories. She is first in batting average (.460), slugging percentage (.840), on base percentage (.481), runs scored (27), hits (46), home runs (9) and total bases (84)). She is tied for second in doubles with nine and she is second in RBI with 26.
Amanda Fitzsimmons is second in runs scored (26), fourth in batting average (.361), second in slugging percentage (.771), second in on base percentage (.459), tied for third in RBI at 24 and tied for first in home runs with nine.
Katelyn Marquez has the second-best batting average at .380, fifth in on base percentage (.426), third in runs scored (25) and she is first in stolen bases at 16.
Terah Blackwell is fourth in slugging percentage (.591), fourth (.431) and first in RBI (28).
Bengals in NCAA Stats
Idaho State is 24th in the nation in batting average (.322), 12th in home runs per game (1.23), 11th in slugging percentage (.524), 43rd in doubles (1.43) and 58th in scoring (5.33).
Vicky Galasso has the 12th best batting average in the country at .460 and she is 24th in slugging percentage at .840.
Amanda Fitzsimmons is 43rd in home runs per game (.32) and Galasso is 56th at .30.
Katelyn Marquez is 47th in stolen bases per game at .53. Galasso is 59th in doubles per game (.30). Fitzsimmons and Galasso are ranked 52nd in home runs (9).
Offensive Power
The Idaho State softball team has already broke the team single-season home run record. The team currently has 37 and the record was 35 set by the 2011 team. ISU is currently hitting .322 as a team and no Bengal team has hit over .300 for a season since the program was brought back in 2007. The 1977 team hit .351. The best batting average was .286 in the 2009 season and .284 in 2010. The team has 149 RBI and the record is 182 by the 2010 team.
Bengals Nearing Single Season Records
Vicky Galasso and
Amanda Fitzsimmons have nine home runs this year and the single-season record is 12 by Heather Dixon in 2007.
Vicky Galasso's .460 batting average would currently rank as the second-best single-season average. Nancy Long hit .625 in 1977 by going 25-40.
Terah Blackwell's 28 RBI ties for the seventh best single-season mark in ISU history.
