Softball Plays Final Home Game vs. UVU on Wednesday

POCATELLO, Idaho- The first-place Idaho State softball team plays its final home game of the 2013 season on Wednesday at 4 p.m. vs. Utah Valley University. The game can be followed on isubengals.com with live stats, audio and video. The Bengals then close out the 2013 regular season May 4-5 at Sacramento State. Idaho State has already qualified for the Big Sky Tournament but can finish in first and host the Big Sky Tournament if it wins the three-game series at Sacramento State this weekend.

Utah Valley leads the overall series 20-12 but the Bengals have won five of the last seven meetings, winning 11-3 in six innings in the third game of the season in St. George.  On April 10 in Orem, Utah, Idaho State scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to beat UVU 8-6.

School Record for Wins
Saturday's win vs. North Dakota set the Idaho State school record for most wins in a season with 26. The previous record was 25 held by the 1979 team. That team went 25-9 and won the Intermountain Conference championship. This year's Bengal softball team is currently 26-19 and 12-3 in Big Sky Conference play.

Final Home Game for Three Bengal Seniors
Prior to the start of last Saturday's game, Senior's Amanda Fitzsimmons, Becky Molyneaux and Christina Rayner were honored. Rayner played for the Bengals in 2011 and 2012 and has been serving as a team-manager in 2013. Molyneaux was a transfer from Salt Lake Community College who has set the ISU single-season and career records for steals. Fitzsimmons is a three-year Bengal who will leave as the all-time record holder in home runs, walks, RBI and runs scored. She and Vicky Galasso are also tied for the single-season record in home runs with 17.

It is a Sweep
The IdahoState softball team has won its last four conference series. ISU swept its series against Weber State, Northern Colorado and North Dakota and then took the series vs. Portland State, winning two of three games at Miller Ranch Stadium. ISU has won 13 of its last 14 games.

Offensive Power
The Idaho State softball team has already broke the team single-season home run record. The team currently has 69 and the record was 35 set by the 2011 team. ISU is currently hitting .342 as a team and no Bengal team has hit over .300 for a season since the program was brought back in 2007. The 1977 team hit .351. The best batting average was .286 in the 2009 season and .284 in 2010. ISU set the team-single season RBI record in the win at UVU. The team has 288 RBI on the season and the record was 182 set by the 2010 team.

Galasso Headlines Bengals in NCAA Individual Stat Leaders
Vicky Galasso has the second-best batting average in the nation at .481. She ranks fifth in slugging percentage at .936 and ninth in runs scored per game (1.13). She is 15th in home runs (17), RBI per game (1.18) and home runs per game (.38). Galasso also ranks 40th in on base percentage at .515. Amanda Fitzsimmons is seventh in runs scored per game at 1.16, 10th in home runs per game (.40), 12th in hit by pitches per game (.40), 15th in home runs (17) and 18th in slugging percentage (.844). Terah Blackwell ranks 37th in RBI per game at 1.04.

Bengals in NCAA Team Stats
As a team, Idaho State ranks seventh in the nation in batting average at .342, fifth in slugging percentage (.575), 11th in scoring (6.78), 22nd in double plays per game (.42), 33rd in doubles per game (1.47) and 21st in in triples per game at .29.
