POCATELLO, Idaho- In the final home game of the 2013 season, the Idaho State softball team lost 3-0 to Utah Valley University on Wednesday afternoon at Miller Ranch Stadium. The Bengals dropped to 26-20 and UVU improved to 34-17.

Idaho State was held to four hits, coming from Amanda Fitzsimmons, Katelyn Marquez, Katee Wiley and Courtney Dial.

“I felt we were passive with pitches and took way too many strikes,” Idaho State coach Julie Wright said.  “We let Mills get into a rhythm and when a good pitcher feels good about their rhythm that is going to be a bad day for the offense.”

Kelsi Ott went the distance, striking out 10, scattering seven hits and walking three.

“I thought Kelsi pitched great,” Wright said. “She was unlucky at times with a high-chopper over Fitzsimmons head. I thought the defense played well. I got after them in the huddle and said if we are going to go down let's go down attacking.”

UVU scored its three runs on seven hits. Neither team committed an error in the field.

After three scoreless innings, the Wolverines scored two runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth.
Utah Valley pitcher Tiffany Mills struck out eight and walked five batters.

The Bengals conclude regular season conference play on May 4-5 at Sacramento State. Game time for Saturday's doubleheader is at 2 p.m. (MST) on Saturday and 1 p.m. (MST) on Sunday.
