Bengals Play at Sacramento State to End Regular Season

ISU has clinched a berth in the Big Sky Tournament and will host if it can win the series vs. Hornets.

Idaho State plays a three-game series at Sacramento State this weekend.

POCATELLO, Idaho- The first-place Idaho State softball team closes out regular season on Saturday, May 4, and Sunday  May 5 at Sacramento State. Saturday's contest is a doubleheader that starts at 2 p.m. (MST) and Sunday is a single-game that begins at 1 p.m.  Fans will be able to listen to the game and follow live stats at isubengals.com. ISU is currently in first place with a one-game lead over second-place Portland State. If the Bengals win two of three they will host the conference tournament May 9-11 at Miller Ranch Stadium.

Sacramento State leads the overall series 3-1. The Hornets took two games from the Bengals last year, winning, 10-2 in five innings and 1-0 in nine innings. ISU's win was a 5-2 victory at Sacramento State on Feb. 27, 2011. Sacramento State is 21-18 and 6-6 in league.

Three of the four teams are set for the conference tournament. Idaho State is 12-3, Portland State 11-4 and SUU 9-6. Sacramento State is 6-6 while Northern Colorado is 5-10. The regular season champion will host the tournament May 9-11.

School Record for Wins
Saturday's win vs. North Dakota set the Idaho State school record for most wins in a season with 26. The previous record was 25 held by the 1979 team. That team went 25-9 and won the Intermountain Conference championship. This year's Bengal softball team is currently 26-20 and 12-3 in Big Sky Conference play.

It is a Sweep
The IdahoState softball team has won its last four conference series. ISU swept its series against Weber State, Northern Colorado and North Dakota and then took the series vs. Portland State, winning two of three games at Miller Ranch Stadium. ISU has won 13 of its last 14 games.

Hitting Streak Comes to an End
Vicky Galasso's school record 25-game hit streak came to an end Saturday vs. North Dakota. She  has 22 multiple hit games and 13 multiple RBI games. Her 17 home runs ties her with Amanda Fitzsimmons for the single-season home run record.

Offensive Power
The Idaho State softball team has already broke the team single-season home run record. The team currently has 69 and the record was 35 set by the 2011 team. ISU is currently hitting .339 as a team and no Bengal team has hit over .300 for a season since the program was brought back in 2007. The 1977 team hit .351. The best batting average was .286 in the 2009 season and .284 in 2010. ISU set the team-single season RBI record in the win at UVU. The team has 288 RBI on the season and the record was 182 set by the 2010 team.

Home Runs and Hit Streaks
The NCAA record for most home runs in a game is four. Amanda Fitzsimmons became one of 56 players in NCAA history to hit three home runs game when she did it against Utah on Feb. 15. Since 2007, only 19 players have hit three home runs in a game. One of the 56 players to hit three home runs in a game was Bengal assistant coach Jessica Rogers. She hit three on March 24, 2007 when she played for UTSA against Nicholls State. The NCAA record for the longest hitting streak is 43.
