BENGAL OVERVIEW
The Bengals open conference play this week against Northern Arizona on Thursday, Sept. 19 and Southern Utah on Saturday, Sept. 21. The Bengals hold a 6-5 record and are ranked second in the conference behind 6-3 Northern Arizona. Thursday game versus Northern Arizona is being aired lived on Fox Sports Arizona, Fox College Sports and Fox College Sports Pacific. The game can also be followed on WatchBigSky.com.
AGAINST MONTANA WESTERN
In their home opener against Montana Western on Tuesday night, the Bengals beat the Bulldogs in three sets, posting a .301 attack percentage. In the third set, the Bengals posted a match-high .429 attack percentage.
AGAINST UTAH VALLEY
The Bengals had their first five-set match of the season when they beat Utah Valley 3-2 at the Wolverine Classic. The Bengals posted a .270 attack percentage compared with Utah Valley's .186. Sophomore
Tressa Lyman led the Bengals with a season-high 26 kills as well as 16 digs and four blocks.
Alydia Fields-Grimm led in digs with 23 and posted 12 kills.
Lori Mendenhall-Lee had a season-high 53 assists and 21 digs.
AGAINST UTAH
The Bengals fell to the undefeated University of Utah in four sets at the Wolverine Classic. The Bengals posted a .102 attack percentage compared to Utah's .344.
Alydia Fields-Grimm had her second double-double of the tournament when she posted 11 kills and 10 digs. Kylee Searle-Sessions led in digs with 12 and
Lori Mendenhall-Lee led in assists with 30.
AGAINST UC IRVINE
Senior
Lori Mendenhall-Lee had her second double-double of the tournament in the Bengals 3-1 loss to UC Irvine. She posted 48 assists and 10 digs.
Alydia Fields-Grimm narrowly missed her third double-double of the tournament with 9 kills and 17 digs. The Bengals posted a .253 attack percentage and UC Irvine posted a .300.
TRESSA LYMAN AND MAKENZIE FILER
Sophomore
Tressa Lyman was named to the Wolverine Classic All-Tournament Team after posting a double-double (26 kills, 16 digs) in their first match against Utah Valley. She posted seven kills and eight digs against Utah and 15 kills and six digs against UC Irvine. Earlier last week, she posted 14 kills against Montana Western. Lyman is the Big Sky leader in kills with 3.97 kills per set.
Sophomore
Makenzie Filer was also named to the Wolverine Classic All-Tournament Team. Filer posted 16 kills and a .667 attack percentage in their game against UC Irvine. Against Utah Valley, she posted eight kills, six digs and two blocks. Filer is the Big Sky's leader in attack percentage with .448. Â
LORI MENDENHALL-LEE
Senior
Lori Mendenhall-Lee had two double-doubles at the Wolverine Classic. The first came against Utah Valley when Mendenhall-Lee posted 53 assists and 21 digs as well as two service aces. Against UC Irvine, Mendenhall-Lee posted 48 assists and 10 digs. She is the Big Sky senior leader in assists with 10.51 assists per set.
ALYDIA FIELDS-GRIMM
Junior
Alydia Fields-Grimm posted double-doubles against Utah Valley and Utah at the Wolverine Classic and narrowly missed her third double-double against UC Irvine. Against Utah Valley, she posted 12 kills and 23 digs and posted 11 kills and 10 digs against Utah. She had nine kills and 17 digs against UC Irvine.
ABOUT NORTHERN ARIZONA
The Bengals take on 6-3 Northern Arizona on Thursday, Sept. 19. The Lumberjacks are coming off two losses to Towson and New Mexico at the Lobo Invitational last weekend. To 4-7 Towson, the Lumberjacks lost 25-21, 25-21 and 28-26. They posted a .126 attack percentage compared with Towson's .274.
Against New Mexico, they lost 25-12, 25-20 and 25-14. They posted a .000 attack percentage compared with New Mexico's .234. The Bengals also fell to New Mexico at the Lobos Classic on Sept. 7.
The Bengals lead the all-time series 34-27. The Bengals won their last meeting 3-1 on November 23, 2012.
ABOUT SOUTHERN UTAH
The Thunderbirds are 8-1 this season, their only win coming against University of Nebraska-Omaha at the UNO 2013 Volleyball Classic. They are currently ranked 10th in the conference.
The Bengals lead the all-time series 3-2. The Bengals have won three straight, two in 2012 and one in 1988. Their last Thunderbird loss came in 1978.
