POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team lost 66-62 to North Dakota on Thursday evening at the Sioux Center. The Bengals fell to 2-1 and 5-7 overall while North Dakota improved to 5-8 and 2-1 in league.
Chris Hansen scored 24 points and hit 6 3-pointers on 11 attempts while
Andre Hatchett had 11 points and
Jeffrey Solarin 10. The Bengals shot 45.7 percent from the field but turned the ball over 23 times, 15 coming in the first half. ISU out rebounded North Dakota, 37-35.
North Dakota shot 41 percent for the game and committed 13 turnovers.
"We were our own worst enemy tonight," Idaho State coach
Bill Evans said. "We had too many turnovers and gave up too many offensive rebounds. The guys battled, we came back and had a chance to win it at the end."
Idaho State led early as it built a 14-8 lead with 13:29 left in the first half after a basket by
Ajak Magot. The Bengal lead was extended to 23-15 four minutes later after two Hatchett free throws. Then with ISU leading 26-19 with 7:19 to play until halftime, North Dakota went on a 14-1 run take a 33-27 lead at the break.
North Dakota led the entire second half but the Bengals did get within one point twice and two points with 15 seconds left after a 3-pointer by
Tomas Sanchez. ISU had an opportunity to tie the game and potentially take the lead with two seconds remaining but Hatchett was whistled for an offensive foul after a made basket.
"We hung in their but couldn't get it done in the end," Evans said.
Idaho State plays at Northern Colorado on Saturday, January 11 at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on Rock 102.5 and 930 CBS Sports Radio.
