POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team is 2-0 in Big Sky Conference play for the first time since the 2007-08 season. Now the Bengals play their first two road conference games of the year, playing at North Dakota on Thursday, January 9 at 6 p.m. (MST) and at Northern Colorado on January 11 at 7 p.m. Both games can be heard live on 930 CBS Sports Radio and Rock 102.5.
North Dakota leads the series 3-1. The Bengals were swept by UND last year, losing 69-52 in Grand Forks and 66-53 in Pocatello. ISU beat North Dakota 76-63 on Dec. 3, 2011.
North Dakota is 4-8 and 1-1 in Big Sky Conference play. Troy Huff is leading UND in scoring at 22.1 points a game and 19 in conference play. The team is shooting .444 percent from the field and averaging 32 rebounds a game.
Scoring Spree for Hatchett
Andre Hatchett had the best two scoring games of his career last week vs. Portland State and Eastern Washington. The Bengal senior scored 51 points, 24 coming against Portland State and 27 vs. Eastern Washington. Hatchett averaged 25.5 points on the week and shot .667 percent from the floor. Hatchett was named the Big Sky Conference and College Sports Madness Player of the Week for his performance.
Team Highs vs. the Vikings
The nine blocks by the Bengals was the most since ISU had 10 in a 50-45 win over Montana State on Jan. 24, 2011. ISU shot 64.3 percent (9-14) from the 3-point line in the 87-76 win over PSU, the best mark since ISU shot .667 percent (6-9) in a 79-64 loss at Montana on Feb. 21, 2009. The .565 field goal percentage was the best since ISU shot .638 percent last year in the 87-51 victory over Montana State on Feb. 14, 2013.Â
Beyond the Arc
The school record for the best 3-point field goal percentage in a season is .392 (235-599) by the 2000-01 team. This year's team is currently shooting .399 percent (63-158) from beyond the arc.
