Amy Sorensen posted her best game in an Idaho State uniform as the Bengals swept Eastern Washington 3-0 (25-19, 25-20 and 25-22) Thursday night at Reese Court.
ISU improves their Big Sky Conference best record to 9-1. The Bengals have won four straight matches and 11 of their last 12.Â
The transfer from Oregon State (Sorensen) collected her first double-double of the season totaling 12 kills and 12 digs. It is the most kills in a game during her ISU career.
"She had a kill on 50 percent of her swings tonight with only three errors. That is really impressive," Head Coach
Chad Teichert said. "Her greatest strength may be ball control with serve/receive and defense. It's nice to have her playing like this."
The Bengals hit .265 as a team in the sweep. ISU improves to 10-0 in matches where they have an attack percentage over .200.
"I thought we served and passed really well tonight," Teichert said.
Tressa Lyman led the way with 13 kills. It is her fifth straight match with double-digit kills. She has reached that plateau in 18 of the 22 matches this season.
ISU had nine service aces; the third highest total of the season.
Kylee Sessions led the team in digs with 16,
Hayley Farrer dished out 38 assists while
Makenzie Filer had five block assists.
The team continues their road trip Saturday with an in-state matchup with Big Sky newcomer Idaho. The Vandals and Bengals will meet in Moscow with game time slated for 8 p.m. Mountain Time. This will be the first time the two schools have met in volleyball since 2002. The previous matchup occurred in 1995.
"The Vandals are a really good team with good size," Teichert said. "We will need to be on our game on Saturday."
