POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State volleyball team picked up right where they left off in the regular season, running their winning streak to 12 straight, sweeping SUU 3-0 (25-21, 25-20 and 25-16) in the quarterfinals of the Idaho Central Credit Union Big Sky Tournament.
"In the first set our attack wasn't very good but when your attack isn't good and you are still able to win you did a number of other things well," Head Coach
Chad Teichert said. "They (SUU) are a much improved team. Credit their coaching staff and credit their girls because they are a significantly improved team. Beating a team like them in three isn't easy."
The Bengals trailed midway through each of the first two sets but rallied back to capture the win with the help of the boisterous 915 fans in attendance at the ICCU Court inside Reed Gym.
Six players had four or more kills for ISU including Whitney Bartshchi-Harrington and
Bailey Bars who each had nine. Hailey Farrer posted a double-double, leading the team in assists with 31 and digs with 12.
Four Bengals collected eight or more digs (Farrer 12,
Kylee Sessions 12,
Tressa Lyman 10,
Alydia Fields-Grimm 10 and
Amy Sorensen 8) holding SUU to just a .092 attack percentage.
Idaho State advances to the semi-finals where they will take on Northern Arizona Friday night at 7:30.
"They (NAU) are a force," Teichert said. "They have good athletes and they are really well coached. We will have to play ball on every play to win. Hopefully we will be ready."
The winner of the ISU-NAU match will face the winner of the North Dakota-Northern Colorado match in the championship and automatic bid to the NCAA tournament Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
All of the matches in the Idaho Central Credit Union Big Sky Conference tournament are held on the ICCU Court inside Reed Gym.
